UAE has announced the establishment of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), the world’s first graduate-level research-based AI University in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi.
The AI University in UAE will offer both masters and PhD programmes across three main specialised fields – machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing.
While applications opened earlier this month, the UAE AI University will welcome its first batch in September 2020.
AI is set to have a transformational impact on the global economy in the coming years. Experts predict that AI will contribute to nearly $16 trillion to the global economy by 2030.
Aware of the role that AI will play in the near future, the UAE revealed a clear roadmap for an AI-driven future through the UAE’s Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031. It also appointed the world’s first Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence in 2017.
With regard to the establishment of the first AI University in UAE, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of State, told the media, “The world needs more human capacity in the field of AI to bridge any possible gaps and that is why today the UAE and Abu Dhabi is announcing the launch of Mohammad Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence.”
He added, “Launching of the world’s first graduate-level artificial intelligence university in Abu Dhabi echoes the UAE’s pioneering spirit, and paves the way towards a new era of innovation and technological advancement that benefits the UAE and a world.”
According to him, the university will help create an AI ecosystem that will help the Emirates leverage the full potential of AI locally, regionally and globally. The university will create an active AI community in the UAE developing innovative applications for businesses and government.
